Help for Autistic Clients

Living life with Autism/Asperger’s Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can present some big challenges for a person – whatever their age and stage – and often for their family too. Sherine has professional expertise in providing skilled counselling support for those affected by ASD.

Sherine also has a passion to do this unique work. She draws on her knowledge and personal experience as a parent of a son with autism (now an adult) and on a wide range of specialised training and learning, as well as on many years of encountering children, teens, and adults on the autistic spectrum, and their families and friends.

She is also available to support siblings, parents and carers, employers, schools, and other professionals working with a person with ASD.

Sherine’s services support:

  • development of language and communication
  • development of social skills
  • effective use of imagination
  • transition to school, university, the workplace, or to a new community or new home
  • self-care
  • decision making – making positive day-to-day life management choices.

Sherine’s approach helps people with Autism/Asperger’s to understand what their main challenges are. Together, they work out solutions and strategies to manage and cope with day to day living. Through this process, autistic clients are helped to make more sense of their regular routines, and of their relationships with other people in their life.

Help for Families

Sherine has deep empathy for families dealing with their child’s diagnosis of an Autism/Asperger’s Spectrum Disorder and its ongoing implications.

She can offer them support and counselling for many related issues, such as managing difficult behaviour, managing high anxiety levels of the autistic child and/or of family members, the effects that having a child with ASD may have on relationships, and the need for workable self-care strategies.

As a mother of a child with Autism, Sherine has a first-hand understanding of the kind of support that families may need, and want, from a counsellor. She can also make suggestions about what may work, and what tends not to work.

Help for Schools, Employers, Organisations

Sherine is available to work with schools and organisations to:

  • educate people about Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
  • gain a better understanding of ASD people and their challenges
  • better understand the behaviour of an ASD child, teen, or adult
  • provide ongoing support and behaviour modifications solutions
  • reduce their anxieties about working with people with ASD and build confidence.

This support can also help to pave the way for a safe entry into schools and the workforce by people with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

If a client has English as a second language

Sherine is happy to work with an interpreter in the room if the client wants this and feels comfortable with it.
